The Role of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Support in Early Management of Unexplained Life-Threatening Acute Heart Failure Due to Left Atrial Cardiac Paraganglioma

Paragangliomas/pheochromocytomas are uncommon neuroendocrine tumors that arise from chromaffin cells located outside of the adrenal gland. Although cardiac paragangliomas have been observed in all heart chambers, most prevalent left-atrial paragangliomas, followed by aortic body tumors. Diagnosis paragangliomas/pheochromocytomas is mostly achieved with a multimodality approach because her clinical presentation ranging incidental findings to refractory acute dysfunction. The role extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support early management and diagnosis unexplained life-threatening cardiogenic shock rapidly increasing worldwide. However, its utility remains still unclear intractable failure due primary paraganglioma. We reported case left atrial paraganglioma/pheochromocytoma measuring 34 mm at maximum diameter 58-year-old male patient. patient presented shock, pulmonary edema, bilateral stroke. Peripherical mechanical circulatory support, veno-arterial mode, was instaured for situation. After normal myocardial function recovery accurate diagnosis, surgical through artery transection radical tumor resection wall reconstruction performed. Postprocedural follow-up six months were uneventful excellent neurological recovery.
